I’m a 19 year-old audio producer/musician/web designer living in NYC, and this here is my blog.
I’ve been producing music for about two years now, mostly for local bands. I started producing because my band needed a good quality demo and all the local producers were inadequate, to put it lightly. Most of them are only in it for the money, and charge crazy prices for awful quality. I decided to change that, so I steadily started learning the ups and downs of audio engineering, mixing, and mastering, thanks to the awesomeness of the internet and Joey Sturgis.
My current audio setup consists of a MacBook Pro running Logic Pro 9, with various lovely plugins such as Drumagog and Melodyne. For guitars and bass I use PodFarm 2.5 running through impulse cabs for a clean, punchy, yet realistic sound. For drums I record at a friend’s studio, with a fully mic’d up drumset (SM57′s everywhere, with a dynamic mic and a sub-bass mic for the kicks), and then I replace the sounds with Drumagog to get a crisp, professional-sounding drum recording.
On the web design side of the spectrum, I’ve been designing websites for about 5 years now. I use Photoshop, Coda, and Transmit to make my websites. I code all my websites with tableless, CSS-based layouts. CSS3 is one of my favorite things on the internet now, it makes web design so much more fun. WordPress is my CMS of choice. Sometimes I pretend that I’m a photographer and post pictures taken with my rather outdated Nikon D70s.
I prefer Macs over Windows PC’s, based on years of using both. I like Apple’s design (most of it, anyway) and OS X. Google Chrome is my preferred browser, but I occasionally use Safari or Firefox. I strongly dislike Internet Explorer 6, but thankfully it’s almost fully dead as of 2012, and 7 is on its way out.
I also play guitar, usually in some extremely low tuning (drop B, A, and G# are my favorites). I have a 6-string ESP WA-200 which I use for drop B/C, and a 7-string Douglas for drop A/G#. I also scream for a local deathcore band that I formed with some friends. Audio production and my band are my main focuses for now, but I still occasionally do some web design to pass time and make a bit of extra money.
